Real Living Ministries is dedicated to intimate worship that moves in Spirit and in truth. (John 4:22-24) Contrary to popular opinion, worship is not a private or personal thing. The Bible gives very specific instructions and understanding about how to worship God. If we worship in truth, we must worship according to the biblical definition of worship rather than according to our personality, personal preference or church affiliation.

If we are going to worship in the Spirit, we must go beyond mental or physical forms of worship, such as singing or dancing. The seven Hebrew words for “praise” found in Scripture describe what true worship in Spirit and in truth entails; these are outlined below. You can expect to see all seven forms of biblical worship in our services!

7 HEBREW WORDS FOR “PRAISE”

1. YADAH – THANKFUL AS A RESULT OF A BLESSING

Definition: To cast /throw/shoot (a stone or arrow) Thrust hands outward or up in the air (to revere) To confess Response of THANKFULNESS as a result of a blessing Derivative of Yad=to draw with strength; to stoke
Derivative of “Yada” = to be intimately acquainted with someone or God. To understand or acquire knowledge; to know; to discern; to know by the senses by investigating and proving

2. TOWDAH - PUBLIC SACRIFICE

Definition:To spread the hands Sacrifice of thanksgiving Sacrifice = infers something has to be given/die—attitude? rights? expectation of how people think of us?
Thanksgiving =an expression of thanks
A public celebration (not private) in acknowledgment of divine favor or kindness. Adoration =the act of paying honor, as to a divine being; worship; reverent homage; fervent and devoted love IT MEANS TO PRAISE NO MATTER WHAT YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES ARE.

3. BARAK - TO KNEEL, TO BOW

Definition: To kneel; bless To do with motions To confess; to thank; to use the hands; to bow the knee; to revere; to worship; to salute; to bless God in an act of adoration (fervent & devoted love) To give thanks and praise to God because He has given out of His abundance
To bless as an act of adoration, to kneel There is usually no vocal expression in BARAK praise; it is more about the movement.

4. SHABACK - TRIUMPH WITH A LOUD VOICE

Definition: To comment; soothe; to still (Prov. 29:11) An adoration towards the power, glory, and sanctity of the Lord To praise God for His mighty acts and deeds To triumph in a loud voice Triumph, glory, commend, a LOUD adoration, proclaiming with a loud voice Out of this shout comes triumph, actually shouting love unto God

5. ZAMAR

Definition: Sing praise; to celebrate with instruments; to touch with fingers the strings of an instrument in celebration To praise the Lord skillfully on an instrument
Used in poetry; singing can be involved

6. TEHILLAH

Definition:  Most used word for praise in the OT Imperative summons to praise Jehovah
A psalm or a hymn, by choirs, with dancing and expressive speaking; festive jubilation.

Comes from HALAL
TEHILLAH is the song the Lord sings to us, through us. It is God’s song being sung. (SPONTANEOUS SONG)

7. HALAL

Definition:
To make a show or boast; to celebrate; clamorously foolish; to shine; to dance; to rave, sing or rage; renowned; all in an attitude of delight  To cause to shine; to make bright; to give light; to deserve praise; radiance  The root word of Hallelujah (HALAL + YAH; YAH= form of Yahweh)
